journal entry

I knew a fellow who kept a small leather journal. I can only surmise what he wrote in it: poems, ideas, a list of people to kill. He would only use pencil and when it was full he would go back and erase it all from the first page to the last. He said it was like recycling, but after a while the pages just turned from white to gray with bits of eraser all over them. Eventually they would fall out, but he kept on writing. When asked why he didn't use an inkpen he would grunt and bark back in a gruff voice, "Too permanent."

i am at the juncture of bordeom and apathy.
drifting deliriously between consciousness and the opposite.
in the good company of working mental transmissions.
chewing on a straw and staring blankly into space.
i'm glad i learned that at an early age.
it's like a library except you can talk loudly, drink coffee, and smoke cigarettes.

can't think anymore.

when situations arise
that you can't control
how do you keep it
from sinking your soul

a cold cup of coffee
a pack of cigarettes smoked
a bad hangover
a heart that's been poked

it was a good day yesterday
a lot of great things had started
but now it's evaporated
and i'm feeling retarded

the cut was deft
quite simple and sweet
and in one fell swoop
i fell off my feet

...again.

Christmas Eve 2006

twas the night before x-mas
all cooped up in my house
with no interweb to save me
from stir craziness about

all my friends have families
those families have homes
and i end up driving
to south st. louis alone

this may be the first year
of fears that set in
when i was a kid and then
the alcoholism begins

it's alright though
even tho i am broke
i can afford my pbr
but my life is a joke

when you can't reach your friends
your family doesn't care
you sit at home watching pbs
and then cut your hair

random thoughts bounce inside your head
as words beat at their britches
but you remember that one time
when you had em in stitches

what do you do
when you've got too much time
being alone and
pretending to rhyme

Paul at the Playground

Once upon a while ago
there lived a kid named paul
he was a good kid just eight years old
and barely four feet tall

he went one day to a place
where happiness was found
a place of fun a place to laugh
a place called the playground

the monkeybars the monkeybars
was where he could be found
he climbed above he ran below
he too hung upside down

upside down was where he hung
as he swung all around
he loved to see the upside world
go tumbling downside down

then one day the wind picked up
and his hair blew really frizzy
he turned a lovely hue of green because
the monkeybars made him dizzy

he slipped, he fell
he thought he hit the ground
he found that it was blue, though
as his friends just ran around

"paul paul are you okay?"
his friend looked up and started to say
"ouch that hurt but now i'm alright"
paul looked up and got quite a fright

"you're upside down!" "i'm upside down?"
"get down from there and quit being a clown!"
but paul didn't know how to
so he started to frown

he sat on a cloud with his chin on his fist
he thought for a moment about what he had missed

after thinking and thinking and thinking some more
paul realized that being right side up was a bore

he had figured out that he wanted to stay
upside down for the rest of the day
and so he did, he stayed there 'till May.

i appreciate all of your love that was shown
